Heritage Jacketing from Brisbane Moss
Clothes make the man, of that much we can be certain. But what of corduroy- the most intellectual of fabrics? From Dustin Hoffman’s portrayal of aimless college student Benjamin Braddock in The Graduate to Donald Sutherland’s brilliant performance as Professor Dave Jennings in Animal House- corduroy is often used as an academic shorthand, but it’s never too stuffy. In fact, in our modern age, it seems like the perfect way to dress down a sport jacket- paired with anything from a frayed polo shirt to a crisp oxford shirt and knit tie.
When we set out to create a limited edition capsule of corduroy jackets, there was only one place we considered for cloth; Brisbane Moss. Started in West Yorkshire by the Moss Brothers over 150 years ago, Brisbane Moss continues to be the largest stock house of corduroy and other cotton textiles in Great Britain. With that in mind, it was only natural for us to partner with friends of the brand, photographer Jamie Ferguson and style writer Manish Puri, who took the cord jackets out of the classroom, and photographed them around the dramatic terrain of his home country of Ireland.
So there’s your history lesson, but what about the jacket itself? We didn’t skimp there either. Choosing a hardy 8-wale corduroy (just chunky enough), we partnered with a small workshop in Portugal to create a soft-shouldered jacket reminiscent of vintage pieces we love. Featuring a classic fit, our corduroy jacket is quarter lined in a breathable printed houndstooth and has two flap pockets at the waist with the added detail of a flap ticket pocket. Available in 6 distinct colorways in very limited quantities.
